Leaked benchmarks show the iPhone 17 Pro is the fastest phone around, and it’s not even close

  • Apple’s A19 Pro chip is incredibly fast, leaked benchmarks suggest
  • The results show it outperforming desktop processors in single-core tests
  • PC chips gain the upper hand in multi-core benchmarks, though

Apple’s iPhone chips are already hands-down the fastest mobile offerings on the market, but their performance gains have been so good that they’re even starting to challenge respectable desktop chips – and it looks like the A19 Pro in the latest iPhone 17 Pro is continuing that trend.

As spotted by leaker Jukanlosreve on X, a chip claimed to be the A19 Pro recently posted a Geekbench 6 single-core score of 3,895, alongside a multi-core score of 9,746. While we can’t independently verify that score – iPhones containing the iPhone 17 Pro won’t launch until September 19 – it looks to be an incredibly impressive result if accurate.

That’s because it outpaces Qualcomm’s rival Snapdragon 8 Elite chip by a sizable 36%, and offers an 11% uptick over the single-core benchmark achieved by its A18 Pro predecessor (the chip that was found in the iPhone 16 Pro series).

That means if you’re looking for the fastest smartphone money can buy, an Apple device equipped with the A19 Pro is the way to go. The iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air all come with this chip (although the iPhone Air’s version has one fewer graphics core compared to its sibling devices).

What’s even more eye-catching is that the A19 Pro’s single-core score goes toe-to-toe with desktop-class chips like the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, Intel Core i9-14900KS, and Apple’s own M4, as noted by Tom’s Hardware. That lends some credence to Apple’s claim that the A19 Pro packs in “MacBook Pro levels of compute.”

According to Tom’s Hardware, the A19 Pro is just under 12% faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and around 16% quicker than the Intel Core i9-14900KS in single-core benchmarks. Considering that those are top-end desktop processors, that’s a remarkable achievement.

That said, you shouldn’t expect the A19 Pro to outclass desktop chips when it comes to multi-core performance, and both AMD and Intel’s offerings come out on top here – so it’s not time to sell off your PC just yet.

Still, the benchmark results show what an extraordinary engineering job Apple has done with its A19 Pro chip. When it comes to mobile performance, Apple is streets ahead.
