As a Sleep reviewer (and shopper), I receive all sorts of rest-related packages at my house, from mattresses in a box to multi-boxed Japanese Joinery bed frames and bedsheet sets, sometimes tied up with a bow. I love them all, but one of the tinier packages I’ve been sent has had by far the most profound impact on me as a veteran professional sleep product and mattress tester—the humble eye mask from Manta Sleep. My colleague Louryn Strampe also loves this mask, whose full review of the headphone version can be seen here. To an onlooker, it may seem a bit bug-eyed. But while you’re sleeping, who are you trying to impress? The design helps keep pressure off your eyes. The mask is fully adjustable and features Velcro on the ends, as opposed to an elastic band. For us big-noggin folks, this is a small but truly appreciated feature. Inside, the internal cups are rounded, so there is no direct pressure on the eyes—something I dislike about many traditional eye masks. While I sometimes feel it around the eye area, the cups are made of malleable foam, so nothing abrasive is irritating my skin.
Like other masks, the Manta provides a complete blackout environment. If you’re unable to use your blackout curtains while on the go (or, in my case, you’re too lazy to get up), this gets the job done. Plus, the cups are removable (!) so you can change them out with other Manta offerings, such as heatable or cooling fabric. While those in particular aren’t on sale for the Amazon Prime Day event, they have been oh-so-helpful for someone who gets debilitating migraines.
This sleep mask also comes with a mesh travel case, complete with an internal zippered pocket that will contain the also included set of foam earbuds. This is another small but thoughtful feature that I appreciate greatly.
I use my Manta without fail every night—now my husband has also snatched one for himself. It’s worth every penny, especially on sale. This is also something I’d happily give as a practical holiday gift to someone who struggles with sleep, and now is a good time to buy it.
