  • IKEA has 21 new smart home products to show off
  • They’re all compatible with the latest Matter standard
  • As of yet, we don’t know how much they’ll cost

IKEA just announced a swathe of new smart home products, just in time for the holiday shopping season. If you’re keen to kit out your smart home further, there’s plenty to choose from – and everything is compatible with the Matter standard too.

We’ve seen smart home products from IKEA before, but this is something of a reboot for the product line. The Swedish company says the gadgets are the result of years of development and testing, with the aim of getting more people upgraded.

“Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people – or affordable enough for many to consider,” says IKEA’s David Granath. “This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started.”

We’ve got 21 products in total here, across three categories, and all of these devices need a Matter-enabled smart home hub to work with (such as the DIRIGERA hub from IKEA). We’re still waiting to hear on pricing and availability by market, though.

Smart lighting

Lighting is the entry point into smart home systems for many people, and IKEA has a range of new smart bulbs to show off. There are 11 different variations in total across the KAJPLATS series, split between four product types.

Those product types are E27/E26 globe shape bulbs (60mm diameter, white or color), P45 E14 compact bulbs (45mm diameter, white or color), GU10 directional spotlights (white or color), and three clear-glass decorative bulbs across three sizes (white only).

Smart sensors

In the smart sensor department, we’ve got five different products to talk about: there’s a MYGGSPRAY motion sensor for indoor and outdoor use to connect to your lights, a MYGGBETT door or window sensor, and a TIMMERFLOTTE sensor for tracking temperature and humidity anywhere in the home.

In addition, there’s an ALPSTUGA air quality sensor that can measure carbon dioxide, pollution particles, temperature, and humidity (as well as showing the time), and finally, a KLIPPBOK water leakage sensor to help you spot problems as soon as possible.

Smart control

The final five devices here cover remote controls and plugs, though really, it’s just a couple of devices. One is the GRILLPLATS smart plug, which lets you convert lamps or smaller electrical devices into smart products by controlling their power at the socket.

Then we have the BILRESA remote controls, which can be used with your smart lights to switch them on and off, and change brightness and colors. It comes with a button, with a scroll wheel, in a pack of three with a button, or in a pack of three with a scroll wheel – and that makes 21 new IKEA smart home gadgets.
