Google Chrome Adds New AI Mode To Transform Mobile Search Experience

Google has rolled out a new update for Chrome on Android and iOS, introducing an AI-powered feature that’s set to change the way people search the web. The update adds a fresh “AI Mode” button, designed to make searching feel more natural and interactive.

When opening a new tab in Chrome, users will now see the AI Mode button just below the search bar. Tapping it activates a smarter search experience that uses Google’s latest artificial intelligence technology. The feature works similarly to what’s already available in the desktop version of Chrome, but it’s now making its way to mobile devices.

The rollout began in the United States, and Google has confirmed plans to expand it to more than 160 countries soon, along with support for several languages, including Portuguese. This global release is part of Google’s broader strategy to weave AI more deeply into its products, making everyday browsing and information searches more intuitive.

At the heart of this new search mode is Gemini 2.5, Google’s advanced reasoning model. Unlike traditional keyword searches, Gemini 2.5 allows for multimodal interactions, meaning users can communicate in a more conversational way—asking questions, following up on answers, or combining different types of input. It’s built to understand context, interpret intent, and provide responses that go beyond simple lists of links.

This means Chrome users can now hold a back-and-forth dialogue with the search engine, similar to chatting with an assistant. The AI can offer detailed explanations, summarize complex information, and suggest relevant follow-up questions. In essence, Google has embedded a version of its Gemini assistant directly into the Chrome search experience.

For most users, the result will be a more fluid and efficient search process. Instead of typing fragmented keywords and skimming through multiple pages, they can interact naturally and get tailored results faster. Google’s goal is to make online searches not only smarter but also more conversational—bridging the gap between human communication and digital information retrieval.

The update may not deliver something as AI integrated as the Perplexity Browser (Comet), but it still marks another step in Google’s ongoing effort to redefine how people access information. By integrating Gemini’s capabilities into Chrome, the company is transforming search from a static tool into a more dynamic, AI-driven experience designed for modern users.
